John B. Stetson is the maker of the cowboy hats, hats have a straight sided crown with rounded corners and a flat brim. Some people say that the cowboy hat was inspired by a joke during a hunting trip by making a cloth from the fur of the animals they captured. 

By dipping the fur in boiled water and kneading it with his hands he created a soft material that is still used to make modern day cowboy hats.
